The Phoenicia is a replica of a Phoenician galley based on the Jules Verne 7 wreck dated to 600 BC. She was built in the ancient way (plank first) and from timbers available in ancient times. She was built as a vessel for experimental archaeology and recreated in 200-2010 the voyage that Herodotus says the Phoenicians made around Africa in 600 BC. In 2019-20 she undertook the Phoenicians Before Columbus Expedition from Carthage (Tunisia) to the Americas. She is the only vessel of her type in the world and has been featured in many articles and books. She is a piece of world history and had been used for exhibitions and educational purposes when not sailing. Having sailed the Atlantic in 2020 she is in reasonable condition but like any wooden boat she does need some work on her.
