Learn how the process works (FAQ)
The lovely 1914 Elco Commuter was commissioned by an art dealer in New York in the early 1900's and was used to transport guests from the Button Bay in Vergennes, VT to the family summer home and private island on Lake Champlain. This island, known as Button Island, is now owned by the state and is part of a Vermont State Park. What we know beyond that, is the boat later moved to St. Albans Bay and was enjoyed by a family for a few decades. During that period it was sold and later repurchased by the same family. We purchased the boat in 1978, and it has been used and enjoyed on Lake Champlain by our family since that time. As summers are short in Vermont, our use of the boat was limited to 3 to 4 months of good boating weather on the lake. The original engine was replaced with a Palmer engine in the late 1980s, and significant work was completed on the boat particularly in the period from 2010 to 2012 to keep it in good condition. Folley has been stored indoors, in the off months, for the last 25 years to shield it from the elements, and is ready to return to Lake Champlain or your favorite lake to be enjoyed by another family for the next 100 years.
