"Toots" is one of only 226 1931 Chris Craft 17 foot runabouts ever made during the short production run from 1930 to 1931. An advertisement from the February 1931 issue of MotorBoating made the point that although the boat was the smallest double cockpit in the Chris Craft lineup, it was still a Chris Craft: "The swift, smart 17-foot runabout embodies the same faultless designing and sturdy construction that characterize the larger boats." This boat's magnificent appearance today conceals the fact that she was discovered by owner Dick Brown in poor condition in a chicken coop. With the aide of fellow Chris Craft owners and the archives at the Mariner's Museum in Newport News, VA, Mr Brown carried out a complete restoration. He was even able to track down antique hardware to create the unique folding top which Chris Craft offered as an option. The original 40hp Gray engine was replaced with the current Gray Marine Fireball 160 sporting triple carbs.

This unique boat has been in the Antique Boat Museum's collection since 2001 and is now ready to reappear on the water with a new owner! This boat appears to be the only 1931 Model 199 offered for sale anywhere.
