The very first Seagull was sold in 1928 to Ransom E. Olds - the Lansing, Michigan auto manufacturer. The boat was shipped by rail on February 11, 1928 to Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Olds' grandson, R.E. Olds III, was twelve years old at the time and lives today and remembers the boat well. He and his dad were with the senior Mr. Olds when he picked up the "Flying Cloud" at Jacksonville. They drove the "Flying Cloud" by water to Daytona Beach where they had a winter home. The Olds family used the boat for family outings for only a couple of years. In 1930 the "Flying Cloud" and another boat, a 110-foot yacht, were sold by a broker to an acquaintance who had a ready supply of cash - Al Capone. Capone used the boat for recreation at his Florida home but in 1933 he was put in prison for tax evasion. The boat was put up for sale in 1937 to satisfy his debts.
