MASB 27 served in WW2 in the English Channel on various duties including air/sea rescue, clandestine operations and preparations for the D-Day assault on beaches of Normandy. Restored 2016-19 the gunboat crossed the Channel in June 2019 for the first time since 1944 under own power, driven by three new Cummins turbodiesels. A unique example of its type with the elegant wood-planked deck, one recorded incident was the rescue of the crew of a B17 downed near the Scilly Isles.
