This American Car & Founbdry boat is believed to be the largest remaining boat from this builder. It is constructed of oak, teak and mahogany and reflects the elegance of a bygone era. She has an intersting career as she owned for mnay years by Jett Williams, the daughter of Hank Williams. In 1942 the US Navy took possession of the boat and used her as a shore patrol vessel along the East Coast searching for submarines and enemy vessels. Logs from this time period are with the boat. The American Car & Foundry Company of Wilmington, Delaware was formed by the merger of 13 smaller, competing railroad car companies and steel companies. The boat has undergone siginficant work in recent yuears including replacmeent of rub rails, skirt boards, and some planks whioch contained dteriration. Sh ehas received 5 coats of primer over the entire port and starboard sides above the waterline and the result is that she is water ready.
