Built By L.E. Fry probably sometime before 1910, Ellie is a beautiful example of the Skiff-Putt. She is constructed exactly as a smooth-lap St. Lawrence Skiff, with cedar planking fastened over oak ribs with copper rivets. Plank laps are clinch-nailed. A v-transom with some tumblehome is substituted for the double-ended form of the skiff, a marine engine installed, and a fine open motor launch is achieved. “Ellie” has mahogany decks, coaming, and transom, as well as seats and a mahogany engine compartment. The ceiling is red cedar. The boat is operated from the middle seat next to the engine compartment, where there is a side-steering wheel. “Ellie” is currently powered by a Gray Four-22, a four-cylinder engine from the late 1930s. Originally, she would most likely have had a one or two-cylinder two-stroke engine from one of any number of manufacturers. “Ellie” is in beautiful shape and is a wonderful example of the superb craftsmanship that came from L.E. Fry's shop. She has been deaccessioned from the Museum's collection and all proceeds will benefit their programs. There is no trailer included in the sale and the boat is sold with bill of sale and deed of gift paperwork only.
